Gilgit: For carrying out mineral survey of Gilgit-Baltistan, a proposal has been sent to Planning Division, a news source quoted Director Mines and Minerals Anwer Ali. The project is estimated to cost PKR 980 million.
Ali also revealed that PC-1 and Annual Development Program for feasibility study for Iron and Copper reserves in the region has already been approved. In order to help promote investment in the mining sector of Gilgit-Baltistan, a museum will be set up where samples of all minerals, stones, and precious gem found in the region will be displayed. The facility will also offer guidance to investors on mining and leasing of mines.
At the moment, 32 companies are operating in the region to import precious gems worth PKR 500 million. In addition to that, the Mines and Minerals Department is also looking to set up a gemstone cutting and polishing centre in the region, said Ali.
