The CEO of the service provider, Irfan Wahab, talked about the difficulties of installing a fibre-optic cable network in the hilly GB terrain, and revealed that the area was previously served by Legacy VSAT satellite network technology. This was the reason that network connectivity in the district presented a number of challenges, which could hinder its progress as a popular tourist destination as well.
As an alternative, he stated, his company utilised O3b satellite network technology to provide 4G services to GB. This satellite network consists of a number of satellites orbiting at distance of 8,000km away from the Earth. Wahab added that since the provision of broadband services was not possible through conventional means in GB, this method was considered the perfect one to bring this connectivity to the people of GB, as well as anyone traveling there.
