Islamabad: Distressed residents of Ghauri Town blocked the Islamabad Expressway on November 17 in protest of the Capital Development Authority (CDA)’s decision to seal the society as it was operating without an NOC.
According to a news source, CDA spokesperson Ramzan Sajid said the authority was correct to declare the Ghauri Town illegal, because of which it dug out the roads, sealed the society, and halted development in the area.
“According to bylaws, every society has to get NOC from the CDA to establish a housing society,” said a senior CDA official.
However, Shahid Nazir, a resident, questioned why the CDA had never taken action before, even though the society had been functional for ten years. According to him, the CDA raised objections out of the blue and barred Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Ltd and Lahore Electric Supply Company from providing connections.
Resentment among residents continues to mount and many feel the authority has completely disregarded their losses.
