Karachi: Sindh Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani has called for the involvement of union committees in Karachi’s ongoing property tax survey being conducted under the World Bank-supported Competitive & Liveable City of Karachi (CLICK) project.
Chairing a review meeting at the CLICK head office on Wednesday, Ghani stressed the importance of engaging local representatives at the town and union committee levels, citing their on-ground knowledge and community ties as crucial to ensuring an accurate and efficient survey process.

CLICK Project Director Ayesha Hameed informed the minister that initial estimates suggest Karachi has over 3.3 million commercial and residential properties. Of these, around 954,000 are currently registered with government agencies. She added that 544,000 property owners are paying taxes, while 432,000 properties are exempt.
The minister directed that survey forms be simplified and made user-friendly so that residents can fill them out without difficulty. He emphasized that the participation of union committees would enhance transparency and public trust in the taxation process.
The property tax survey aims to update and expand the city’s tax base by identifying taxable and exempt properties, helping boost municipal revenues and improve service delivery.
