Islamabad: The government has asked the cement manufacturers to be ready for an expected increase in demand for cement from the construction sector, a news source reported. This is an expected development that will result from Naya Pakistan Housing Programme.
Advisor to Prime Minister on Textile, Commerce, Industry & Production and Investment Abdul Razak Dawood stated this while talking to a delegation from a cement industries association.
The cement industry increased its production capacity by 6.58% during the last fiscal year and it utilised 92.82% of the industrial production capacity, the highest since 1992-93. Then, the total production capacity was only 8.89 million tons, compared to 49.44 million tons in 2017-18.
Cement has seen an increase in demand already during the last four years because of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor projects as a large amount of infrastructural development has been taking place. The year 2017-18 witnessed the highest growth in the past five years as the dispatches grew by 5.5 million tons during the year.
