Gilgit: German Ambassador Bernhard Schlagheck on Tuesday announced that the German government will help improve education, power, and health sectors and alleviate the impact of climate change in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), according to media reports.

During a telephone call with Chief Minister Khalid Khurshid Khan, the German envoy offered assistance to improve various sector in the region. The German government’s efforts were lauded by the chief minister. He further stated that Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan’s goal is to encourage development in the region, and that the federal government has proposed a PKR 370 billion development plan for GB.
Furthermore, the minister stated that the United Kingdom has offered several opportunities in the minerals, power, and tourism sectors. Chief Minister Khalid Khurshid stated that the region is vulnerable to climate change and that foreign financial institutions must assist in mitigating its effects.

He also stated that special German cooperation is required to build new power plants and upgrade the power supply system.
