Lahore: The delegation from Innovative Techno Plus, a Germany-based investment firm, on Monday (December 12) met with Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Pervaiz Elahi to discuss setting up a waste-to-energy project in Lahore, news sources reported.

The said German firm also showed its intent to manufacture solar panels in the province.
In response, CM Elahi welcomed the firm’s green energy initiative, promising every possible help in their endeavours. The chief minister pledged that affordable electricity would be made available through the waste-to-energy project and that the Punjab Cabinet had approved its expression of interest. He further highlighted that the production cost of energy generated from the waste-to-energy project would be reduced by more than 50%. It was mentioned that the government would formulate the terms of work with the German firm soon.

It is noteworthy that both the federal and provincial governments have declared their intent to transition from costly fossil fuels to renewable green energy initiatives such as dams and solar parks, in an effort to reduce the environmental damage caused by climate change and global warming.
