Gujranwala: Gujranwala Electric Supply Company (GEPCO) has decided to ban issuance of temporary electricity connections to all housing schemes in Gujranwala Division, a news source reported. The decision has been taken in response to the reports of some developers deceiving buyers about GEPCO-issued approvals for electricity connections for their housing schemes.

GEPCO has notified its officers in all circles and divisions that they can no longer sanction an approval for the issuance of temporary electricity connections for any housing project or land subdivision in the entire division. Under this notice, housing schemes and land subdivisions in Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Mandi Bahauddin, Narowal, and Hafizabad can no longer have temporary electricity connections.

In addition, GEPCO has instructed its concerned officers in the respective districts to share details on the existing temporary connections. The company also sought a plan on the renewal or termination of these connections.
Sources claim that six illegal housing schemes with temporary electricity connections have been selling property at expensive rates, thus defrauding the public.

The developers who require a temporary connection to commence development work can submit an application in GEPCO headquarter, which will be processed before an approval is granted.
