Islamabad: The international community has come out in support of the post-flood rehabilitation efforts in Pakistan, pledging USD 10 billion in donations at the Geneva conference, news sources reported on January 9.

Over 40 countries attended the Geneva meeting and pledged a total of more than USD 8 billion for Pakistan’s Resilient Recovery, Rehabilitation, and Reconstruction Framework, which was presented at the conference. As per the government, Pakistan needs an estimated USD 16.3 billion over the next three years to initiate rebuilding and increase resilience to climate change. The following amount was pledged by various organisations and countries:
- Islamic Development Bank: USD 4.2 billion
- World Bank: USD 2 billion
- Asian Development Bank: USD 1.5 billion
- Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank: USD 1 billion
- Saudi Arabia: USD 1 billion
- France: USD 384 million
- China: USD 100 million
- US: USD 100 million
- EU: USD 93 million
- Germany: USD 88 million
- Japan: USD 77 million
- UK: USD 10 million
- Azerbaijan: USD 2 million

In a series of tweets, minister of information and broadcasting Maryam Aurangzaib said that the pledges would be used for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of communities devastated by the recent floods. She also highlighted that the USA has also committed to providing an additional USD 100 million through USAID.
