Islamabad: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has imposed a PKR 5 million fine on state-owned Northern Power Generation Company Ltd. (Genco-III) because of negligence in the maintenance of switchyard, according to a news source. This caused the major power breakdown on 15th January 2016 in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
The Nepra has taken a serious notice of this and held legal proceedings against Genco-III. It has also directed the management of National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC) to investigate the matter and submit a full report. Nepra holds Genco-III responsible for non-operation of primary protection at TPS Muzaffargarh which caused the tripping of transmission lines and power plants that ultimately caused this.
