Islamabad: The government has announced its decision to set up a Gemstone City in Islamabad to promote foreign investment, according to a news report. Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan made recommendations in this regard at a meeting he chaired about developing the gemstone and minerals sector of Pakistan.

The PM suggested that this Gemstone City should serve as a one-window facility for foreign investors interested in the sector. He also directed the relevant officials to prepare a detailed report on all concerns, so that a comprehensive roadmap could be prepared. This roadmap will ensure the best possible plan to create and sustain this facility.

Additionally, he expressed his views that developing the gemstone and mineral sector will help provide career opportunities for the youth and will also promote exports. Moreover, the members of the meeting also discussed matters pertaining to reserves of precious gems, promoting foreign investment, encouraging coordination between the provincial and federal governments and research in the sector.
