Abbottabad: The Galiyat Development Authority (GDA) has announced its plan to develop Integrated Tourism Zones (ITZs) in five major districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), including the Thandiani hill station in Galiyat — according to news sources. The purpose behind this development is to offer integrated services to tourists under one roof, in order to encourage additional people to visit the area in the future.

An ITZ is a relatively new concept in modern tourism infrastructure, and has been adapted by the KP government to offer a one-stop shop for tourists. As per the information available, Director General (DG) GDA Raza Ali Habib has confirmed that the provincial government had approved of five major ITZs to upgrade the tourism infrastructure. These are to be located in Thandiani Galiyat, Mansehra District, Chitral District and two in the Swat region.

The department hopes to promote tourism and create job opportunities to boost the local economy through this developmental project. The DG GDA added that the new masterplan being implemented would also help the government department promote education and health tourism in the region.
