According to the details, the initiative, set to be executed by the World Food Programme (WFP) in partnership with the government, will focus on strengthening climate risk management and preparing for extreme weather events.
Over the next five years, the project will enhance flood forecasting and climate information services by installing automatic weather stations, river gauges, and water level sensors. It will also improve protocols, conduct simulation exercises, and develop local adaptation plans.
Approved at a recent GCF board meeting in South Korea, the project aims to support over 1.6 million people affected by climate change. It will enhance flood forecasting, support livelihood diversification, and offer targeted crop management advice. The initiative also plans to improve knowledge management, reduce dependency on negative coping strategies, and involve local entrepreneurs.
