Gilgit: The Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) government has decided to set up a tourism force based on the models followed in Thailand and Malaysia, a news source reported.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sanaullah Abbasi recently expressed his views on the matter. He was talking to reports in the capital Gilgit on Wednesday.
The tourism police division consist of over 600 members; including the IGP; one SSP; 75 sub-inspectors; 105 head constables; 315 male constables; 70 female constables, and 70 official staff.
IGP Abbasi said that initiative was being taken to ensure security of tourists. Only candidates who have English speaking skills would be recruited in the force.

He said that the main office of the tourism force would be established in Gilgit, while sub-offices will be set up in Hunza, Nagar, Skardu, Diamer, Ghizer, and Ghanche districts.
