Lahore: The Punjab Assembly has issued the official gazette notification for the Aab-e-Pak Authority Bill 2019, a news source reported. The Governor Punjab Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar had signed the bill two days ago, after it was passed by the Punjab Assembly on March 14, 2019.
The Aab-e-Pak Authority will aim to provide clean water around the province. The Governor Punjab will be the patron-in-chief of the authority, while a Chairman will be appointed for three years to oversee its affairs.
The authority’s governing body will consist of 9 members, and it will also have 4 ex officio members. The ex officio members include Secretary P&D, Secretary Finance, Secretary Housing, and Secretary Local Government.
The authority will install water filtration plants across the province.
According to the stats shared by the governor, 80% of the people resident in Punjab remain deprived of clean water – resulting in 1.1 million annual deaths due to waterborne diseases.
