Peshawar: The Mol gasfield on Thursday regained its former optimal gas production capacity of 325MMCFD (million cubic feet per day) — reportedly to the ‘great relief’ of the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL), according to news sources.
Earlier, the production capacity of the gasfield in Karak district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had reduced to 125MMCFD, which led to gas shortfall of over 400MMCFD. The shortfall forced SNGPL to either suspend or curtail supply to CNG, industries and power sectors to accommodate over six million domestic consumers residing in Punjab and KP.

The suspension was not, however, extended to the zero-rated industries. The supply to the general industries and CNG sector will be restored as soon as the gas situation gets normal. The Mol gasfield will provide 200 MMCFD of additional gas in the system to meet domestic demand. Additionally, SNGPL also stands to get 1,070 MMCFD of regasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) from today (December 27) onwards; which is 70 MMCFD higher than the present supply.

The SNGPL officials expressed their hopes that the gas situation in the country would improve soon with this development in the gasfields and improved weather conditions.
