Karachi: The Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) has banned contracts from transporting garbage in open trucks around the city, and has imposed heavy fines on violators, according to news sources.

The department released a press statement that declared that contractors responsible for transferring garbage to landfill sites are to cover their trucks with sheets. The Managing Director (MD) Asif Ikram resolved that no one will be allowed to litter the city, and all contractors will have to abide by the law.

He was on a visit to the SSWMM command and control department on Wednesday. Here, he monitored the garbage disposal and movement of the trucks through the GPS trackers that have been installed on each vehicle.
Presently, the board operates in the district municipal corporations (DMC) of East, South, Malir and West districts.
