Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Monday (July 18) awarded the contract for the expansion of the expressway from PWD to Grand Trunk (GT) Road to Frontier Works Organization (FWO), news sources reported. The PKR 10.9 billion projects will be completed in 18 months.

Reportedly, the CDA invited expression of interest (EoI) for the expansion of the expressway from two lanes to four lanes under section 42(F) Rules of the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA), which allows only government-owned organizations to directly contract with other state-owned entities. Only two government-owned firms participated in the bidding process, with the other being National Logistic Cell (NLC) which quoted PKR 11.7 billion for the project. The CDA, citing the lower bid, accepted the FWO offer at PKR 10.9 billion.
Under Project Concept-1 (PC-1), FWO would construct a 7-kilometre-long four-lane expressway that will connect PWD to GT Road, which will be used by the traffic coming to Islamabad from Lahore, Azad Kashmir and other northern regions.

It is also worth noting that the FWO is already working on several road infrastructures and development projects in the capital, including the Blue and Green Lines bus stations. The contracts were granted to FWO by the CDA under the same section 42(F) of the PPRA rules.
