Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) on Wednesday (March 16) has awarded the contract of the Rawalpindi Ring Road (RRR) project to the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO), according to news sources.

RDA Chief Engineer & RRR Deputy Project Director Dr Habibul Haq Randhawa disclosed that the authority has awarded PKR 22.8 billion contract to the FWO. As per the details, the FWO’s bid was PKR 300 million less than the estimated cost of the project. The Punjab government has released PKR 4 billion for the RRR project while RDA will provide PKR 3.5 billion to FWO for mobilisation of machinery.
Moreover, the government was asked to use the PKR 4 billion fund by June 30 this year, whereas RDA will provide PKR 500 million for the initial work. It was notified that the work on RRR is expected to start next month and land acquisition has started already.

Reportedly, the construction work of the 38.3-kilometre long main carriageway from Baanth (N-5) to Thallian (M-2) will be completed under the project. According to sources, an 8,992-kanal area was reserved for the RRR project.
