Gujar Khan: The Punjab government has released PKR 5 billion funds for the construction of the 129-kilometre-long Lillah-Jhelum dual carriageway project, according to news published on August 15.

As per the details, the dual carriageway project was approved by former Prime Minister Imran Khan, at the total cost of PKR 16 billion, in June 2021. It was mentioned that the construction was launched in November 2021. The said project is expected to be completed by March 2023.
Reportedly, after the change in government, the construction progress has been slow. The release of funds for the said project was lauded by the locals and it was said that timely completion of the carriageway will benefit the residents of the surrounding areas.

It is pertinent to note that the project will link Grand Trunk Road (GT Road) to Motorway, providing a prompt connection to Kashmir. The said project will bring economic development to the region and create employment opportunities.
