Islamabad: The federal government has reserved PKR 31 billion for the establishment of Information Technology (IT) Park in Karachi, according to media reports.

A senior official of the Ministry of Information Technology (whose name was not disclosed) mentioned that the IT park in Karachi is part of the government strategy to establish IT zones and software parks along with purpose-built software technology parks in major cities across the country. These IT zones will help boost R&D innovation and entrepreneurship, help improve efficient and cost-effective collaboration, and digitalisation to meet the needs of the modern era.
Sharing more details, it was disclosed that the Karachi IT park will generate 5,000 IT job opportunities for the youth. The official mentioned that the IT park will encompass 210 IT companies employing 8,400 people. The project will feature multi-storey buildings with eight floors above the ground and three basement floors. The park will span 106,449 square metres.

Moreover, the IT Park will allow local universities and industries to set up synergies. The park will also improve the provision of workspace and allied infrastructure amenities for IT and IT-enables services (ITeS) for the growth of the IT industry. The project is expected to be completed in two years.
