Islamabad: The federal government has issued PKR 4 billion funds to the provincial governments for the protection and preservation of national parks in the country, according to news published on Thursday (March 10).

As per the details, Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan has ordered to set up 15 new national parks in order to increase forest cover by 15% by 2023. It was notified that nine new national parks will be established while 6 were notified, but not protected. The work has started to make the national parks fully functional with proper governance and management.

Moreover, the federal government has also provided funds for the preparation of management plans, promotion of eco-tourism, and generation of green jobs. According to an official (whose name was not disclosed), the National Parks Service was introduced to help prepare the management plans and get help from the locals to protect wildlife species and forests. He further added that preservation of national parks is the utmost priority and trained manpower and modern technologies were being used.
