Rawalpindi: The Punjab government has reserved PKR 100.3 billion for developing 15 mega infrastructure schemes, including the Rawalpindi Ring Road (RRR) project, in the city during Fiscal Year 2020-21, according to a news source. The proposals were shared by Punjab Minister for Finance Makhdoom Hashim Javan Bakht during his budget unveiling speech delivered on June 15.

As per details, the allocation of these funds for mega infrastructural development projects will help Rawalpindi become a model metropolis. Sources also claim that respective departments will lay the foundation stone for these projects between August and October this year.

Details on these projects and funds earmarked for their development in upcoming fiscal years are as follows:
- PKR 61 billion for construction RRR project
- PKR 920 million for Dadhocha Dam development
- PKR 55 billion for development of Leh Expressway
- PKR 250 million for construction of Chahan Dam Water Supply Scheme
- PKR 50 million for establishing new universities
- PKR 2.5 billion for provision of potable water
- PKR 500 million for construction of a 50-bed hospital on Chakri Road

Speaking to reporters, Punjab Parliamentary Secretary Chaudhry Adnan said that Rawalpindi has been included among cities featuring low-cost Naya Pakistan Housing Programme (NPHP) developments. He further revealed that Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan will lay the project’s foundation stone this year.
