Rawalpindi: Rawalpindi Commissioner Captain (Retd) Muhammad Mehmood has revealed that the process of disbursement of funds for Rawalpindi Ring Road (RRR) project’s land acquisition has begun, according to a news published in national dailies on February 8.
The commissioner shared this information while presiding over a meeting held to review the proposal for construction of Leh Expressway under the private-public partnership (PPP) model. During the session, Mehmood said that the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) Governing Body will meet this week to review the Leh Expressway development model.

Leh Expressway is being developed under public-private partnership and once the RDA Governing Body grants an approval, it will be sent to the Public-Private Partnership Authority for review. Moreover, Chairman Mehmood also directed National Engineering Services Pakistan (NESPAK) to inform the RDA about the comprehensive details for approval of the Leh Expressway project under a public-private partnership.
Reportedly, Leh Express project is aimed at boosting commercial activities in the surrounding areas and significantly reduce traffic congestion in the city as this will be a signal-free zone.

During the meeting, plans for Kachehri Chowk and Defense Chowk remodelling were also reviewed. The commissioner also briefed media that the RDA has been directed to review the PC-1 of NESPAK’s Kachehri Chowk remodelling project in three days and formulate its recommendations and necessary amendments.
Talking about RRR, Mehmood said that this project is also being developed under PPP mode.
