Lahore: Punjab Council of Arts Executive Director Abrar Alam revealed that PKR 390 million funds have been approved for the upgradation of the Open-Air Theatre in Bagh-e-Jinnah, according to news published in the leading newspaper on October 5.

As per the details, the budget for upgradation will be allocated under Annual Development Program (ADP) scheme. It is expected that the project will be completed in 2023. The news source mentioned that the oldest theatre in the city will be upgraded and equipped with state-of-the-art features.
Moreover, the executive director informed a meeting of the Design Approval Committee was held last year for finalising the recommendations related to the design of the scheme. The committee has finalised the details of the project and work has commenced.

Under the upgradation programme, the Open-Air Theatre will be brought at par with international standards, conserve the cultural heritage and promote the art, culture, and language of Punjab. The director disclosed that the project will include makeup rooms, a control room, a conference, room, a project room, green rooms, a music room, an art gallery, officers, a soundproof studio, and CCTV cameras. He went on to say that marble will be placed on the stage, and extended parking and a café will be built.
