Sahiwal: Sahiwal Commissioner Nadeem-ur-Rehman has announced that the city’s five-decade old sewerage and water supply lines will be replaced at an estimated cost of PKR 11.6 billion, a news source reported. The commissioner revealed this information in a meeting held with National Engineering Services of Pakistan (NESPAK) officials and other stakeholders in Sahiwal on Thursday.

The project is being funded by the Asian Development Bank under the auspices of the Punjab Intermediate Cities Improvement and Investment Programme.
The amount stated is to be spent on the provision of potable water and the replacement/up-gradation work of the city’s old and rusted sewerage lines. In addition, the district administration will also set up 10 new waste-water stations to streamline the sewerage system in the city; with the construction of a main sewerage treatment plant also being part of the project.

The rehabilitation work on sewerage lines is set to be carried out in different parts of the city. In some locations, the authorities concerned will extend the exiting sewerage lines network and construct a trunk sewer.
Breaking down the project’s expense, NESPAK officials have said that of the total allocation, PKR 9.2 billion would be spent on the installation of water and sewerage treatment plants and a wastewater disposal station; while PKR 2.6 billion will be utilized for laying water supply lines and the installation of new filtration plants and tube wells in the city.
