Bahawalpur: Commissioner Asif Iqbal Chaudhry revealed in a meeting on Monday that the Punjab government has allocated PKR 200 million for upgrading the sewerage systems in Ahmedpur East city, according to news sources.
Out of this amount, PKR 90 million will be utilised in the existing financial year (FY 2019-20). The project’s initiation was spurred by the long-standing sewerage issues faced by the residents of Ahmedpur East city.

Due to choked, expired, and leaky sewerage pipes, sewage submerged most of the roads in the city. The situation worsened since an important junction of Pakistan Chowk on Uch Sharif-Ahmedpur East road was turned into a sewerage puddle, rendering it impassable for traffic.

The commissioner, concerned about the issue, dispatched strict instructions to utilise the funds transparently for the resolution of the problem in accordance with the communicated specifications.
