Islamabad: During Thursday’s National Assembly (NA) session, Federal Minister for Energy Omar Ayub revealed that the government has allocated PKR 300 million for the upgradation of a 132-kilowatt grid station and for the electrification of villages in Chitral, a news source reported.

He revealed this information in response to a Call to Attention notice regarding delays in laying down of electricity transmission lines in Union Councils (UCs) Broze and Ayon, and the villages of Arsun, Kesu, Arndu, and Ashreit, despite the release of funds. He added that the PKR 150 million will be spent on upgradation of the grid station, and the remaining PKR 150 million of electrification of the villages.

The minister assured that the finance ministry would soon release these funds. He informed the session that the power station required an upgrade as its existing infrastructure had become obsolete. He added that they were also considering a plan to provide hydel electricity to Chitral and Gilgit from Tajikistan.

Ayub also told the house that National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) would reveal its new tariff for reducing the electricity rates for the community tubewells supplying drinking water to Islamabad.
