Taxila: The Punjab government has allocated funds of PKR 160 million for the restoration of tourist facilities in Taxila, according to news published on October 21.

A spokesperson of the Punjab Archaeology Department mentioned that the government has allotted PKR 70 million for a three-year plan to restore and preserve different ancient sites in Mohra Moradu Stupa, Bhallar Stupa, and Sirkap. The news source revealed that PKR 20 million has been reserved for the implementation of the said plan in the current fiscal year 2022-23.
As per the details, Mughal Garden in Wah will be restored in three phases, at the cost of PKR 30 million. In the first phase, PKR 2.23 million will be released and the rest of the funds will be released in three phases by 2024-25. These projects are expected to be completed by June 2025.
Moreover, PKR 50 million has been allocated for the acquisition of land for setting up parking and tourist facilities at Dharmarajika Stupa. During the existing fiscal year, PKR 25 million will be released and is expected to be completed by June 2025.

Punjab Archaeology Department Deputy Director Mohammad Iqbal Manj stated that the Taxila Valley has important world heritage archaeological sites. He went on to say that the department is promoting religious tourism through the improvement, restoration, and upkeep of tourist facilities at different Buddhist sites.
