Islamabad: A French delegation, on their visit to Pakistan, showed interest to set up ski resorts in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and invest in the tourism sector of the country, according to news sources.

In a meeting, the French delegation, led by Honorary Investment Counsellor in France Federico Juan Thomas Espana, discussed possible areas to explore for investment in the tourism sector with the Secretary of Board of Investment (BoI) Fareena Mazhar.
BoI in collaboration with the GB government has organised a visit for the French delegation to Phandar, Nagar, Astore, Skardu, and Ghizer districts. It was reported that after the visit, the delegation will meet representatives of the National Incubation Centre and Ministry of Information Technology to further discuss cooperation.
Moreover, BoI informed that the visit of the French delegation is the result of a Zoom meeting held in September between the BoI secretary and the honorary investment counsellor. During the meeting, BoI briefed the French delegation about the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with Business France on the exchange of information, investment facilitation and cooperation, and knowledge sharing.

Furthermore, BoI Secretary Mazhar informed the delegation about the new investment strategy 2020-23, which has been introduced to attract foreign investment. The French investors were briefed about the 22 Special Economic Zones (SEZs) and invited to establish their businesses.
