The freight train will reach its destination in Lahore within four days. The freight train service matches the commissioning of the 3.7-kilometre high-tech train track laid at Hutchison Ports Pakistan that will link the facility with the rest of the country. As per the details, the new track placed within the terminal encompasses three rail sidings of 700 metres each along with a crippled wagon sliding. The tracks are ballastless and embedded in concrete. The switching between tracks and signalling will be through a computer-based interlocking system. Moreover, General Manager and Head of Business Unit at Hutchison Ports Pakistan Captain Syed Rashid Jamil, while speaking at the ceremony, stated that the freight train service will boost the country’s trade. He went on to say that containers will be discharged from the ships and the train will deliver them to the factory gates in different cities including Lahore, Sialkot, and Multan.
