Faisalabad: For improving the efficiency of Water and Sanitation Authority (WASA) in Faisalabad, France has released loans worth PKR 11.70 billion on easy terms, reported a news source. In this regard, a ceremony to sign the agreement was held on May 23.

Ambassador of France to Pakistan Marc Barety, Advisor to Prime Minister Dr. Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, Economic Affairs Secretary Noor Ahmed and Agence Française de Développement (AFD) Country Director Jacky Amprou attended the meeting.

Underground water in Faisalabad is saline and thus unsafe for drinking purpose. The amount will be spent on helping WASA supply an additional 30 million gallons of water. It is the first project funded by France for the water and sanitation sector in Faisalabad.

Furthermore, WASA will install a water filtration plant for which AFD will offer technical help. This is in addition to AFD helping with urban development and power generation projects in Faisalabad.
