Rawalpindi: The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has decided to take action against defaulters and 4,000 illegal connections in the city, a news source reported. This action is being taken after Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) decided to raise the tariff on more than 400 WASA tube wells in the city.
WASA has been reviewing its finances, and as a result of these changes in tariff, it will have to pay IESCO PKR 50 million instead of the previously decided PKR 40 million. The water tariff has been fixed at 98 rupees since 1998, so now WASA has decided to improve its efficiency and recovery as it prepares to take action against defaulters and bogus water connections.
