Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif laid the foundation stone for the Serena Chowk and PTCL Chowk development projects on Tuesday (November ), marking key steps toward improving traffic flow in Islamabad. The ceremony took place at Khayaban-i-Suharwardi, with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and CDA Chairman Mohammad Ali Randhawa providing detailed briefings.
The Serena Chowk project, with an allocated budget of Rs4.2 billion, is designed to streamline traffic on Srinagar Highway and Khayaban-i-Suharwardi by adding three underpasses—two on Srinagar Highway and one on Khayaban-i-Suharwardi—as well as loop roads to facilitate smoother movement. The project is slated for completion within 60 days.

The PTCL Chowk project on 9th Avenue, budgeted at Rs4.1 billion, includes a new flyover and additional road upgrades. This initiative aims to reduce congestion on one of the city’s busiest avenues and is expected to be completed within 100 days.
During the event, PM Shehbaz Sharif commended the dedication of Minister Naqvi, CDA officials, and all stakeholders involved, acknowledging their swift efforts in recent city beautification projects for the SCO conference. He noted that these developments are part of a larger vision for Islamabad, signaling the government’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure and quality of life for residents.

In addition to these road projects, the CDA announced plans to establish a new Safari Park in Islamabad, with groundwork expected to begin within a few months. The prime minister is expected to inaugurate this project as well.
Furthermore, CDA Chairman Randhawa revealed upcoming auctions for plots near the Marriott, intended for the construction of two new five-star hotels. Future plans also include linking Margalla Avenue with the M-1 Motorway, reducing travel time between the President House and the motorway to just 15–20 minutes.
With these projects, the government aims to address Islamabad’s traffic needs while boosting tourism and urban development in the capital.
