Lahore: Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan laid the foundation stone of a shelter home (musafirkhana) near the railway station on Saturday, according to a news report. This shelter home will provide food and shelter to 120 people who are left to spend their night out in the open. The project is meant to broaden the circle of state’s and citizens’ social responsibility.
Under this project, shelter homes will be constructed in five parts of the city; Data Darbar, Lari Adda, Railway Station, Thokar, and Badami Bagh. Orders in this regard were earlier given by Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar to Lahore development Authority, which invited tender for the project earlier this month. Land meant for the shelter home near Lahore Railway Station belongs to the provincial government, but the construction work will be carried out by the federal government at a cost of PKR 250 million.
In the first phase alone, five shelter homes will be constructed in the vicinity of Data Darbar. To oversee the functioning of these homes, a board will be formed.
