Rawalpindi: The preparations for the Nullah Leh Express have all been completed, and the foundation stone will be laid in September, according to a news report. Prime Minister Imran Khan will lay the foundation stone in a ceremony attended by all important stakeholders and other dignitaries in Liaquat Bagh.
This project is expected to cost PKR 85 billion, with the rise from PKR 80 billion attributed to rising currency exchange rates. Therefore, to avoid the need for a new PC-1, Railways Minister Sheikh Rasheed said that the plan to make a track for a mono train has been dropped.
This railway line will be 23 kilometres long, and will be completely signal-free. In addition, the relevant authorities will build six bridges for this track at locations including Gawalmandi and Ganj Mandi. Rasheed also stated that three water treatment plants would be installed along the route for the cleaning and maintenance of the carriages. The Nullah Leh Express is expected to be complete in two years, and will go from Sawaan Bridge to Peshawar Morr, where its passengers will have easy access to the Islamabad International Airport.
