Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif laid the foundation stone for the much-anticipated Murree Road underpass on Thursday, which will provide a direct link to Srinagar Highway. The project, designed to ease traffic flow, is expected to be completed by the end of next month.
The underpass will ensure a smooth, signal-free route from Islamabad International Airport to Muzaffarabad, benefiting daily commuters from Murree, Bhara Kahu, and surrounding areas. Previously, traffic from Murree and adjoining areas had to navigate through the Kashmir Chowk roundabout to enter Srinagar Highway, often causing congestion. Once the underpass is finished, vehicles from Murree will have direct access to Srinagar Highway, bypassing the roundabout.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, CDA Chairman Mohammad Ali Randhawa, and other officials for their role in advancing development projects in Islamabad. He emphasized the importance of timely infrastructure upgrades for the city’s growth.
The underpass construction is part of the broader Serena Interchange project, which was completed earlier this year. The project, worth Rs900 million, is progressing swiftly, with work on both Murree Road and the underpass expected to finish within 60 days.
