Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi laid the foundation stone for the Central Business District (CBD) Punjab Boulevard and remodelling of Kalma Chowk underpass, according to news published on October 31.

The CM stated that this is the first mega-project scheme of the Punjab Central Business District Development Authority (PCBDDA) that will create jobs, attract investment, and beautify the city. He opined that the government aims to stabilise Punjab as a developed economic welfare province. He went on to say that PCBBDA has a prominent place in the development of Punjab and has plans to expand the scope of work across the province.
As per the details, the CBD Boulevard will be a 365-metre-long boulevard, which will be constructed in two phases within 180 days. The construction of CBD Boulevard will help curb traffic congestion and reduce air pollution caused, which will beneficial for the environment. The news source mentioned that PKR 11 billion were allotted for various development projects, including CBD Boulevard.
The project will start from Kalma Chowk underpass and separate it from the first underpass access to the CBD. It was mentioned that another underpass will be constructed while turning towards Firdous Market from Centre Point. The different allied development work on Gulberg’s Main Boulevard will also be carried out along drainage and underground sewerage.

Moreover, the said project will have two underpasses immediately after crossing the Kalma Intersection underpass (heading towards Gulberg from Barkat Market). It will provide signal-free access to the commuters to the CBD area and Walton and Ali Zeb Road, to go towards Firdous Market, entering Cavalry Ground through the Lal Shahbaz Qalandar underpass. It was highlighted that the total cost of the project is PKR 4.947 billion and will be completed within 10 months.
