Islamabad: The foundation stone for the expansion of the 164 kilometres long Jaglot to Skardu Road in Gilgit-Baltistan will be laid by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on October 23, according to a news source. The development work on the project, which is estimated to be PKR 31 billion, will be formally initiated next week.
The contract for the project has been awarded to Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) in June this year. Funds worth PKR 2.23 billion have already been released in the form of a mobilisation fund to the FWO. The news report further says that a team of eight FWO engineers have already started work on the site.
At the moment, the width of road is 3.8-4.5 feet, while on turns the width is a mere 4.5-5 feet wide, allowing only one car to pass at a time. The expansion of Jaglot Road will fix these issues. The project is to be completed by 2020.
