Karachi: The legendary English football player Michael Owen on Wednesday (January 26) laid the foundation stone for Pakistan’s first soccer stadium in Karachi, according to media reports. The football player is on a three-day visit to the country to promote football.

The event at NED University of Engineering and Technology was attended by a large number of teachers, football fans, and students. Speaking at the event, Owen stated that he was amazed by the passion of the locals for the sport. He went on to say that Pakistan is a wonderful country for the sport and was happy to be part of the historic transformation of the football sport in the country.

As per the details, the stadium will be developed as per international standards of the European Football Association. It was disclosed that the former player will also visit the Lyari Town area in Karachi – also known as ‘mini Brazil’ due to the passion of locals for football.
