Sarwar said that unsafe drinking water leads to about 1.1 million deaths annually, adding that at least 20% of the Punjabi population is suffering from water-borne diseases.
The Punjab governor had earlier constituted a seven-member committee to suggest policies regarding the formation of a number of water bodies at the tehsil level.
The water bodies will be headed by assistant commissioners, whose primary task will be to recommend sites for the construction of water filtration plants – as well as their post-installation maintenance.
