Rawalpindi: The Forest Department has notified the beginning of the ‘fire season’ for vulnerable forested areas located within the Rawalpindi Division to avoid incidents of campfires, a news source reported. This period will last till July 15.

As per reports, the department has announced barring people – visiting the woodland areas of Margalla Hill, Kotli Sattiyan, Taxila, Lehtrar, Kallar Syedan, Ghora Gali and Panjar – from bringing along lighters, matchboxes, knives and axes.
In order to further ensure that rules are diligently followed, reports claim installation of close-circuit cameras at all the important parts of these forests. Furthermore, the department has also established temporary camp offices where officials and guards will reportedly work in shifts for 24 hours a day.

While talking to media, Forest Nazim Saqib Mehmood Sheikh said that the department has a ‘zero-tolerance’ policy in place against issues of theft and campfire incidents. He also mentioned that a number of ponds have already been set up to deal with any unfortunate fire incident.
