Rawalpindi: In an operation launched against illegal occupants in Mouza Tumair, Punjab Forest Department has retrieved 3,736 kanals of land, reported a news source. The retrieved, which is believed to worth several billions, was in illegal occupation from the last 3 decades.

Right after freeing the land, the Punjab Forest Department marked the area and planted about 65,000 saplings. Further, the department also set up posts of Forest Guards to avoid reoccupation of the land. Punjab Forest Department Conservator Saqib Mehmood Sheikh said that the department has received strict orders to retrieve forest land from the land mafia.

To ensure that the department’s hold on the retrieved land remains intact, saplings have been planted. Sharing details on the plantation drive in Rawalpindi, Sheikh said that they have planted 985,000 saplings so far. He also said that the Spring Plantation Drive will end on April 15. Soon after that, the department will shift its focus to Monsoon Plantation Drive in May 2019.
