Islamabad: During the forensic audit of housing schemes conducted by Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), major discrepancies were spotted, where only 51 out of the 452 audited cooperated housing societies were developed according to the relevant bylaws, reported a news source. The agency also discovered that 5,967 housing societies in the country aren’t registered with the concerned authorities.
FIA also conducted forensic audits of 2,814 private housing schemes, out of which only 248 were developed according to their respective approved maps. The report prepared by FIA also revealed that disputed land in patches was purchased for setting up cooperative housing schemes, while developers of private housing schemes inconvenienced the public by not giving plots for which they had already collected money. Furthermore, overselling of plot files for private housing schemes was also reported.
FIA also found out that housing societies had been paying land mafia for their services and did not make payments against plots transferred to the Cooperative Department. In order to keep information from registrar office and auditors, fake bank accounts had been used.
