Living in a world plagued with consumerism, materialism, and individualistic attitudes, we must not forget that hearts are not void of altruistic sentiments and the world is not empty of kind souls. However, living in a nation suffering from bizarre crime occurrences, a disquieting security situation, and with the majority of the population living below the poverty line, being positive can sometimes be difficult. Walking along the roads and glancing at the physical state of our land, we may be further aggravated by the sight of piles of garbage, the odour of multitudes of trash, and the frequent hurdles of trying to walk through heaps of rubbish.
Yet, Pakistan is a country rich with tradition and ripe with talent, not to mention numerous people who are striving to make a difference and make their motherland a better place. Behind opinions framed with severe austerity, faces hardened by circumstances, and the most taciturn personalities lie warm hearts filled with concern for their nation, the resolve to make a difference, and the energy to put in all the necessary effort. Whether they are the organisers of the Kachra Festival, the Gutter Fashion Show, or the man who is currently painting walls in Karachi with images of dogs to discourage public urination, they all care!
It is with this motivation that Team Zameen stepped out to play their part. While giving charity, sponsoring environmental events, and blood donation drives are all worthwhile initiatives, Team Zameen thought it was equally important and about time that they took the responsibility upon themselves to make this beautiful country sparkle again. Armed with cleaning equipment, volunteers from Team Zameen headed out to an area in Lahore and cleared away the trash surrounding a dumpster. To some it may sound like a brief flicker of change rather than a major movement, but Team Zameen has endeavoured to take it further by challenging five other firms: Careem, Brighto Paints, Auto Genie, Shopistan, and Sarcasmistan, to do the same.
All of the above mentioned businesses have agreed to become part of this activity and will be organising their own cleaning drives soon! While Team Zameen is highly pleased with this response and every little bit helps, every patriotic Pakistani needs to step in and help. This is why Team Zameen has taken the initiative further and has started the #CleanYourZameen challenge, inviting everyone to do their share and also get the chance to win an exciting prize.
