Rawalpindi: A committee consisting of the Chairman Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA), Commissioner Rawalpindi, and the deputy commissioner recently approved the construction of a new food street in the city, according to a news source. Further, the PHA has selected a potential development site for the project — situated adjacent to the Shabistan Cinema.

This decision was taken at a meeting attended by Rawalpindi Commissioner Saqib Zafar, Deputy Commissioner Saifullah Dogar and PHA Chairman Asif Mehmood. The committee members referred to the location near Shabistan Cinema as ideal for the project’s construction.

As per reports, the food street will feature both local and continental food items. The committee is keen on giving this food street a ‘modern and green outlook’ while ensuring cleanliness in the locality. In addition to serving food during the regular hours, visitors will also be able to use the place during the sahur and iftar time during ramzan.

Moreover, the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has yet to finalise its decision on the land transfer process for the project. As soon as the details on land transfer are finalised, work on setting up the food street will begin. Sources claim that the project will be completed in one month following the completion of the land transfer process.
