Karachi: Sindh Chief Secretary Dr Muhammad Sohail Rajput has said that the flood affectees will start receiving compensation for damaged houses from Feb 8, news sources reported on February 1.

Under the rehabilitation scheme devised by the province, the affectees would receive PKR 300,000 for completely damaged houses, while PKR 50,000 will be given to the owners of partially damaged houses. The funds will be transferred to the affectees through the Sindh People’s Housing Foundation (SPHF) in association with its partner organizations. Speaking at an event, Dr Sohail said that the World Bank (WB) has pledged USD 500 million for the flood rehabilitation efforts while the Federal and Sindh governments would each contribute USD 250 million. He added that the government has created SPHF under Section 42 of the company’s ordinance to help rehabilitate the people whose houses have been affected by the flood.

Furthermore, to ensure transparency in the implementation and distribution of funds, SPHF has partnered with National Rural Support Programme (NRSP), Sindh Rural Support Organisation (SRSO), Thardeep Rural Development Programme (TRDP), SAFCO Support Foundation and HANDS.
