Peshawar: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Tuesday issued a flood alert for the Swat and Panjkora rivers; asking the residents of the adjoining areas to move away from the banks, a news source reported. Following the rising levels of water in both rivers due to ongoing rains in the province, the authority has issued the warning in the interest of public safety.

According to the details revealed, the water flow in Swat River at Chakdara stood at 7,548 cusecs and that at Khwazakhela area stood at 40,872 cusecs. Meanwhile, the water flow in Panjkora also crossed 40,000 cusecs.
The officials concerned had revealed that the flood would pass via Nowshera and Charsadda districts at midnight on September 1. On the other hand, the authority had asked people residing in nearby areas to move away from the banks of these rivers and shift to safer places.

Issuing the flood alert, PDMA asked people to remain vigilant of the water flow in both rivers. Furthermore, the authority and the district administration have collaborated to monitor the flood situation and to commence with the relief and rescue operations in case of any emergency.
