Karachi: Energy Minister Imtiaz Ahmed Sheikh disclosed that Sindh’s first floating solar power project will be launched on Keenjhar Lake, according to news published in the leading newspaper on July 9.

As per the details, the solar power project will provide 500 MW of environmentally friendly electricity across the province. The minister mentioned that the work on the feasibility report is underway in full swing. He hoped that the project will start generating electricity within two years after all relevant approvals.
Moreover, Energy Minister Imtiaz Ahmed Sheikh stated that the establishment of a power project on Keenjhar Lake will help control load shedding and promote tourism. He further added that the said project will help in creating employment opportunities in the province. Additionally, the minister revealed that the Letter of Intent (LoI) has been issued and the company concerned is expected to invest USD 40 million.

Reportedly, the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) shared the country’s first solar power project in Ghazi Barotha and Tarbela barrages will be established. The said project will generate 300 MW of low-cost electricity.
