As per details, this facility will help the government to avoid capacity payment trap (worth PKR 849 billion) by utilising idle power projects and offering substantial relief to the masses during the four months of the winter season. Presently, the power consumers with ToD meters are billed after two power tariff regimes; one is peak hours’ tariff and other for the off-peak hours.
As per an official source, the flat tariff regime will be enforced from November 2019 to February 2020, and a summary to this effect will be tabled before the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) next week.

Moreover, the official stated that the industrial consumers of B1, B2 would also benefit from the flat tariff facility. The base tariff enforced by NEPRA will not be affected by this regime and neither will the revenue stream.
